As a Clinical Specialist physiotherapist, Mr. Begg can be asked to assess patients who are failing to recover, and who require a second opinion. In these cases, it is important that both the patient and their physiotherapist are involved in the process. If all parties are agreeable, a referral can be made, for either diagnostic assistance, or a full transfer of care if indicated. Some cases go on a long time for good reason, due to the complexity of the injury and the patient’s unique situation. Other cases go on a long time due to sub-optimal treatment planning and follow-up. In these cases, I work to equip your client with education, tools to use, and skills that lead to self-management rather than dependence on treatment.
